FAQs

What happens in the first session?

The first session gives us an opportunity to talk in more detail about what brings you to therapy and what you would like help with. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or what you want to change. We can begin by exploring what's happening for you and take things from there.

How long will I need therapy?

There isn't one answer that suits everyone. Some people come with a particular issue they would like to work on over a relatively short period, while others find longer-term therapy more helpful. We can talk about what might suit you and review how the therapy is going as we work together.

Is therapy confidential?

What you talk about in therapy is treated confidentially. There are, however, some circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, for example where there are serious concerns about someone's safety or where disclosure is required by law. I will explain confidentiality and its limits when we begin working together, so you know where you stand.

Do I need to know what's wrong before I contact you?

No. Many people come to therapy knowing that they're struggling but aren't entirely sure why. You may feel anxious, low, overwhelmed or stuck, or simply know that something doesn't feel right. Part of our work can be understanding what's happening and what you would like to be different.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. I offer both face-to-face and online sessions. Online sessions can be useful if travelling to Forest Row isn't convenient or if you simply prefer having therapy from your own home.

Do you offer EMDR online?

Yes. EMDR can be offered both face-to-face and online. We would first talk about what brings you to therapy and whether EMDR is appropriate for what you would like help with.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions are £60 for 50 minutes. Longer sessions are available and charged on a pro-rata basis.

Can I speak to you before booking a session?

Yes. I offer a free introductory call of up to 30 minutes. This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what you're looking for, ask any questions and get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable working with me. There's no obligation to book afterwards.
